If you've ever known and loved a dog, it's not hard to understand why they're dubbed "[human’s] best friend." But they're often so much more – our confidants, our teachers and even our healers. This episode of Big Blend Radio features Moth StorySLAM winner Anne Abel who discusses her new memoir, "Mattie, Milo, and Me" (She Writes Press, April 2024). The book shares the central role her dogs played in her healing journey as a survivor of parental abuse, and severe depression. Hear how she unwittingly rescues Milo, a dog with serious aggression issues, and finds herself unable to give up on him. Milo is dangerous, and Anne would never do anything to endanger her sons – but she also believes that everyone deserves a second chance. More: https://anneabelauthor.com/ It's the perfect podcast conversation to celebrate National Pet Day (April 11) and Canine Compassion Month (April). Hosted on Acast. In honor of April being the Month of the Military Child, this Big Blend Radio "From the Vault" interview features author Michael Joseph Lyons who talks about about his adventurous novel “Brat and the Kids of Warriors." Written for tweens and teens, the book brings life to the culture of our military families, borrowing scenes from his own military family upbringing. Michael Joseph Lyons is a brat—and he admits that with great pride. He lived the adventure of growing up in a military family. His dad was a U.S. Army colonel; his mom was the general in charge of their family. Lyons moved nine times and attended 11 different schools, more overseas than in the United States. He went on to join the U. S. Army, initially as a lieutenant and then a captain. Later, he developed and taught courses at UCLA on the nine principles of war and became a serial tech entrepreneur.
